As mentioned at in the article "online shopping tips" You can tell when you are dealing with a secure Web site in several ways:
- First, if you look at the top of your screen where the Web site address is displayed, you should see https://. The "s" that is displayed after "http" indicates that Web site is secure. Often, you do not see the "s" until you actually move to the order page on the Web site.
- Another way to determine if a Web site is secure is to look for a closed padlock displayed at the bottom of your screen. If that lock is open, you should assume it is not a secure site.
- The third symbol that indicates you are on a secure site is an unbroken key.
As you said, it is always good to keep in mind the basics of knowledge in terms of secure websites. When I was doing some reasearch regarding tips for secure online shopping and related issues, I came across the link of National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) http://www.staysafeonline.org/. I really recommend it, since it offers detailed information in regards to secure online practices for all ages that creates awareness among users.
ReplyDeleteI do not think a secure web site really exists, no matter how many fringes you put on the page to stress its "thief proof" qualities.
ReplyDeleteIf we think the even the sites of Nasa,FBI and Pentagon ( among others ) have been hacked it is not clear to me how people can really think that the site is clear just because the owner put an "s" after http or a closed padlock at the bottom of the screen.
If you want to be sure that your credit card data will not be stolen simpl do not put them on internet, no matter how many padlock you can find!
I agree with Danny that there are really no sites that are fully secured. However, Ola, I appreciate the basic tips for making sure that the website you are shopping from is as secure as it can be (at your time of purchase). I am a big supporter of online shopping, since I do not have much time as a student and full-time employee to make it to a mall as often, but I do make sure I monitor my bank accounts and credit card statements on a regular basis!
